Atheist denial: God still part of inauguration

God will still be a part of the presidential oath of office.

A U.S. District judge on Thursday rejected an atheist's lawsuit that would have eliminated the phrase "so help me God" from President-elect Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony, according to the Washington Examiner.

Atheist Michael Newdow filed similar lawsuits in 2001 and 2005, but neither went to trial.

Newdow, of Sacramento, Calif., said he wanted to take the phrase "so help me God" out of the oath of office and cut the invocation prayer because any references to God or religion violate the Constitution.

Should Obama be prohibited from saying "so help me god" at the swearing in ceremony?

Question of the Tuesday

Since I was absent from English on Monday, here is my Question.

Whats the purpose of religion? I read somewhere its because people want to feel like a part of a larger...thing, but why? I don't want to feel like my life is controlled by an omnipotent all-knowing "God". I want Free Will! So if "God" does control Christians, lives, then shouldn't they make pefect choices because that's what "God" told them to do? However, all Christians obviously aren't perfect. Take the Kool-Aid massacre (Jonesville, i think) if the preacher was told to do it by "God" why would he/she tell Jones too? Why would killing ninety people be beneficial to humanity? Is "God" just in some big "Deep in the Dungeon" game (if you're not in Honors Math, DitD is a thing for probablilities with paths, and you have to choose random paths, and find out where you end up, more or less), just geussing wether something will positively affect humanity, or is there just a big Plan that will execute itself anyhow?

The floppy icon

Open any program. Go ahead. If there's a SAVE option, there's a floppy icon. The floppy is so old, I don't think I've ever seen one more than once or twice. The storage capacity is minimal, yet it's still the SAVE icon. I doub't you could find a new computer with a floppy drive. Heck, I bet you couldn't find and old 2000 model with a floppy drive. You probably couldn't find a floppy, either. If you were to dig around on CraigsList or a mom and pop computer store, you might find a floppy or a floppy drive. The best place to look would be the ever-growing outdated computer museum. Maybe they'll sell one too you. Even Spore, one of the most advanced and newest games (or program, period) on the market, has a floppy next to its SAVE option. If anything can survive ten years in the computer world, even just as a 16px by 16px icon, then it deserves to stay.
LONG LIVE THE FLOPPY!

Brochure

Do you think mr tupper is going to give EC if you turn in your brochure on the fifth? Or will he let you turn it in on, say the seventh, with no minuses? I'd say bring them in on the fifth, either way its a win. You could get EC, or nothing will happen (or if you turn it in after the fifth, you get minuses, then you get an anolog of EC).

death of the sun

I can't post comments lately, so am responding to Quintins question here.

The sun will run out of hyrdogen in 4-5 billion years. Excepting a early death by some alien bombing it or something Probably longer than you'll live. After that, it will fuse the resulting helium, causing it to expand. At its widest, it will engulf Earth and probably mars as well. after all the helium is burned it will cool and shrink. but earth will be a floating pile of ashes then. the expanding shrinking will take 5-8 billion years
